Browse among the communities and collections

On the home page of the DDE, you will find the list of communities: Design Degree, Institutional, Masters and Postgraduates, and Research. You can access the list of sub-communities or collections, depending on the case, by clicking on any of them.

Among the particular collection, you will find the documents, and options to sort results by date of publication, authors, titles and subjects. There is also a search engine that lets you search for documents in this collection.

On the right side of the screen, you will find several filters that will allow you to browse lists of authors, titles, and subjects of the entire repository, or of the collection or community in which you are.

Once you get to the bibliographic record of a document, you can consult the main bibliographic data (author, title, abstract...), or see them all by selecting "Show full item." On the left side of the screen you will find the link to the corresponding file in the event that it has open access.

General behaviour and available operators

The search engine found on the right side of the interface allows you to quickly find documents in all communities and collections of the repository.

By default, the system retrieves all records that contain all of the terms of the query. For example, the search: "editorial design" gets the records where the terms "design" and "editorial" appear.

If we only want to find the records containing one of terms of the query, we use the OR operator. For example: editorial OR design.

You can explicitly exclude terms with the NOT operator. For example, the search: design NOT editorial, retrieves all records that contain the term design, but not the term editorial.

The terms used in queries can be truncated using an asterisk. Thus, the search for: Design*, will find records which show, among other terms: design, designer, designer, design, etc.

You can also search for exact phrases using quotation marks. For example, "Qui vetlla per Barcelona".

The system is not case sensitive (design and Design, return the same results), but it recognises accents and other diacritical marks such as umlauts, the cedilla, etc.

In the search results page, and through the scroll down menu by the left of the browser, you can limit search results to a specific community.

Filters

The "Show advanced filters" option, allows you to refine your search by limiting the results by adding new criteria related to specific fields (author, abstract, etc.). Specifically, the available fields are:

  • Author
  • Tutor
  • Title
  • Date
  • Subject
  • Abstract
  • Is part of
  • Type
  • Language

Each field has an associated drop-down menu that allows you to define if the results must contain the search terms, must exactly match the terms, or must not contain them.

With the + and - buttons located on the right side of each filter, you can add and delete new filters respectively.
